The dolls: Where to find and the avg price

From left to right:
Springfield Doll: This doll may be found at some craft stores such as Michaels or JoAnn's for around $16. She comes in blonde, brunette, red head or African American. This is a great starter doll, especially for the younger child. Her hair is rooted and can be brushed but tangles and mats easily.

Madam Alexander/Alexander Girz: This doll may be found at Costco around Christmas time for around $25. Toys R Us also carries them for around $30. She comes in blonde, brunette, or African American. One of my favorite things about this doll is that she has a plastic chest plate. This is great for summer clothes like swim suits.  She too has rooted hair but will frizz a bit when well loved.

Our Generation: This doll can be found at Target for around $30. I haven't seen many of these except for blonde and brunette. Although her hair is rooted, I don't recommend brushing it. I tried and her hair came out in thick strands. She does have a decent collection of accessories though. Fun, even if you get a different doll.

Gotz: This is a German made doll and sells for around $80. If you live in the SLC UT area, you can buy them at Gardiner Village at Georgelle Doll Shop. You may also purchase them online.  I don't have one of these dolls so I don't know if she has rooted hair or a wig and I can't say for certain if it tangles or mats easily. My guess is not from seeing the quality in person. This site has an awesome collection of accessories. A note from one of my readers: "To answer your question on Gotz;  the hair is a wig, and is more of a straw-like type.  Not the best I've ever seen. (at least on my gotz doll).  It doesn't wash/curl/style like the others do.  "

American Girl: OK, so I will admit, I have become a lover of these dolls. I have 5 in my collection so far. The only place I know of to buy a new doll is from American Girl's website. They sell for $98 and up, depending on the accessories you choose for them to come with. They come in a variety of styles and of course, an entire collection of accessories. Their hair is actually a wig and can be brushed and loved. If for some reason, the hair becomes damaged, you can send it back to be re-wigged. I also have a link in the "Just for Fun" tab of a gal that will repair them as well.

Whatever doll you choose, I guarantee that any of the clothes I make will fit them. "
